Tom Ford, Gucci, Dior, Thierry Mugler
February (2019) I happened to be in Dubai Dutyfree and decided to buy me some Tom Ford. I like his Cafe Rose and wanted more. And there is no better place to buy TF than at Dutyfree.
OH YEAH !
Tom Ford Orchid Soleil Eau de Parfum The Black Orchid didn’t do it for me. The incense in there is just too heavy. But the Orchid Soleil is ‘brighter’ and lighter. Soleil is the right word for it.
I like florals in perfume but they have to be mixed in with heavier/non-sweet scents
Top notes of bigarade and pink peppercorn bewitch with fresh cypress, before unleashing the molten floralcy at its sparkling heart. Key Notes: Tuberose Petals, Black Orchid, Headspace*, Spider Lily Accord, Vanilla, Chestnut, Cream Accord, Patchouli.
Thankfully the vanilla is a base note because I really dislike vanilla as the main note in a fragrance. I don’t like to smell of icecream.
*I dont know what ‘headspace‘ is !
This is my most favourite perfume!
While in Dutyfree I did what I usually do, go ‘oh what the heck let me buy more pretty smelly things’.
Gucci Bloom Nettare di Fiori Key Notes:Rose, Rangoon Creeper, Osmanthus. This has a sweet floral fragrance with the Osmanthus giving it the ‘weight’ it needed to prevent it from getting too sweet or floral.
It’s nice but to me a very common fragrance. It basically smells like the cosmetics floor of a department stores.
I prefer a degree of heaviness in my florals, like leather, tobacco or wood.
Dior J’adore La Collection And then…I bought the Dior J’adore collection. Seriously I bought this just for nostalgias sake.
The first expensive perfume I bought with my own money was Dior’s J’adore Lor. Fast forward to 20 years later…
The collection contains the J’adore parfum and eau de toilette, J’adore L’absolu and J’adore in Joy.
J’adore Key Notes: Ylang-Ylang, Damascus Rose, Jasmine
J’adore L’absolu Key Notes: Magnolia, Grasse Jasmine, Rose
J’adore In Joy Key Notes: Fleur de Sel, Ylang-Ylang, Peach
hmm yeah. All florals which I don’t really like in the first place. Also they don’t really seem to last either. I wasn’t impressed 20 years ago I am not impressed now.
In general Thierry Mugler’s Alien has been my go to for years. Key Notes:Jasmine Sambac, Cashmeran Wood, Amber Gris. Alien is a floral-woody-amber fragrance that borders the realms of spirituality and sensuality.
I loved it when I smelled it on a boy pal Harvey, and bought it on his recommendation. Harvey is a successful milner in London! Just FYI.
I can NOT smell it on myself but 5th bottle in and I still get compliments when I wear it. Random strangers; waitress, barista, a person on the bus, flight attendant, friends, ushers, you name it.
Truth be told I only buy it because of the compliments 🙂
Tom Ford Cafe Rose This is my project pan fragrance. I bought this around 5 years back as a birthday present for myself.
It’s rich! Key Notes: Turkish Rose Oil, Bulgarian Rose Absolute, Coffee Essence, Incense Resin, Sandalwood, Patchouli Oil Fraction.
I don’t do Tom Ford anything but his perfumes are the cat’s pajamas. However I am really bummed at not being able to buy some Joe Malone.
Sadly the next Dutyfree shop, that I was running past to get to my gate, had Joe Malone!!! But I had no time to stand around buying Joe Malone without missing my flight back home.
NOTE: Clean Reserve Acqua Neroli that I received as a sample from Sephora I really liked !
