March 2018 I started Project Pan with a list of 17 items.
9 months in I can confidently say I am in a better place than where I was when I started. Not because I hit pan on everything I set out to, but because I changed my focus. And that has resulted in less anxiety and guilt. Moreover I am not afraid of failing at Panning!
The lesson learn’t is to shift the focus away from the goal of ‘hitting pan’ but to use the product organically.
It’s now a journey of me using a product when I want to. ‘Want‘ not ‘need’.
And just like that….just like watching milk boil, the moment you look away it boils over, err hit pan.
Maybelline Color Sensational in Untainted Spice (crème) – On my purplish pigmented lips it doesn’t show up as a colour, nude or otherwise. And because it’s a creme finish it doesn’t add a glossy shine either. Thus all in all too subtle a look for me. But inspite of it’s insipid effect I could not bring myself to trash it.And then last month I had an a-ha moment. My ‘YouTube made me buy it’ Pixi liquid lipstick in Really Rose is a chalky rose against my skin tone and I regret my purchase.
But with this lipstick over the Pixi balances a chalky rose to flattering, noticeable ‘nude’ lip on me.Also the crème formula makes the lip feel moisturised giving me a long lasting, comfortable wear. 2 birds, one pan!
Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder in Warm Natural:
It’s still going. Jeez 5 years now!
After months of anxiety I finally decided to toss the rule I made up. A rule that said ‘I wont use my Laura Mercier Translucent powder till this one is done’.
I now use both depending on what the occasion is. Placebo effect or not, feel like I use the Bobbi Brown more. The product has gotten very thin, I can feel it.
Eyeliner & Eyeshadow Pencil Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon in Dark Pearl & Jordana 12 Hour Made to Last Liquid Eyeliner Pencil in Espresso
I am in no any hurry to finish the Jordana eyeliner pencil. I just want to use it before it dries up. It’s a great product and I am impressed how well it behaves on my extra oily eyes.
The Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon eyeshadow pencil is finally approaching ‘nub’ stage! The soft bronze with a subtle shimmer is very flattering on my lashline. I LOVE this product.
I am not sure what I will buy once I am done. Another eye shadow pencil? Laura Mercier ? Bobbi Brown? Or a nice shimmery eyeliner pencil from UD 24/7 ?
Or ….. maybe Fenty, Pat McGrath or Linda Halberg will come up with some cool sh*t that I will want. Dunno don’t care.
Mentholatum Lip balms: Lately I have been heavily into lip glosses preferring the high gloss look, so using these two products were a snooze fest for me, but here we are!The red tinted glossy balm is nice and at the ‘dig out of the tube’ stage:) In the last month the way I upped the use of this balm was by wearing it under a matte lip liner.
Matte liners are too dry for my lips but applied all over this glossy balm gives me a matte lipstick-like finish that is hydrating.
The other pink-mauve lip balm is done ! Yes I could dig into the tube but I don’t want to. From the time I bought it I wasn’t happy with it since it didn’t tint my lips nor did it give me a gloss finish.
I bought in 2016. 3 years of slogging through this is long enough, thank you very much.
Surprise Entry: I never included an eyeshadow palette as an official project pan item because I have learn’t not to set myself up for failure.
I lack the discipline to stick to a single palette. Day 2 I want a different palette. Heck on most days I wish I could use 2 different palettes on each eye, that’s how greedy I am for eyeshadow palettes.
And because of this I kept guilting myself into thinking I would never hit pan on palettes quick enough.
But this is where the boiling milk analogy works perfectly. I had hit pan on 2 shades without even trying.
This is a big deal for me ! I am not a person who digs into shades. I am a ‘light-tap’ person. And sometimes I might do a single sweep of a shade.
These probably have less than a month to go:
